“I am not free while any woman is unfree, even when her shackles are very different from my own.”
― Audre Lorde
If you ask my inner child, “When you grow up, what do you want to be?” Her only wish would be…to be free. Allow me to re-introduce myself. I'm Adia, also known as “Dia”. You can call me friend...your homegirl...the homie...your good sis...your bestie...your favorite feminist...or the woman of your dreams. Whatever you call me, just call me for fun. for pleasure. for unraveling. for writing. for stories. mine, yours, and every black woman in between.
I have a passion for writing and telling stories. And not just my stories. I want to tell the stories of many girls and women everywhere, so that we all are maximized to reach our full potential. As a daughter, a sister, a grand-daughter, a niece, and a friend…I hope to encourage every woman to live and be whatever they want to be...no matter size, shape, height, skin color, or size of insecurity. I am every woman, and every woman...is me.
I recognized my biggest weakness (my feelings of inadequacy) could be turned into a strength. My flaws were also a source of ambition, drive, and passion. From my world, my experiences, and my journey..I gave birth to “Dialosophy” in 2016, a space I didn’t have to hide my ongoing struggles or my feelings. The initial goal of Dialosophy was for every woman to know their battle is not their own...for every man to support and love what every woman goes through. I started Dialosophy to bring a new light to “insecure”. Dialosophy was started to celebrate mistakes, while I continue to continuously make my own.
Dialosophy is wellness, healing, and intimacy. Dialosophy is a space...to share and choose your story. Reconstructed in 2019, Dialosophy is not just a platform for the stories and journeys of woman of color, but also a platform to provide resources to enhance women's rights, health, and well-being.
My research and career interests are: domestic/intimate partner violence, sexual/reproductive health, policy, and women's health. I am currently a Data Analyst in the State of South Carolina and a 2019 graduate of Emory University's Rollins School of Public Health, where I earned a Master of Public Health (MPH) in Epidemiology and a Certificate in Maternal/Child Health. I received my Bachelor of Science in Biology from Claflin University, where I was a member of the Alice Carson Tisdale Honor College. I am also a proud alumna of Columbia High School, located in Columbia, SC.
When I'm not striving, I “thrive” by reading, writing, binging shows on Netflix, going to the movies, spending time with friends and family, trying new things, and traveling. The color, royal blue (my favorite color!)-the color of peace, tranquility, and confidence-makes me happy.
Lastly, I am a PROUD Lifetime Girl Scout Member, and I feel my mission in life is similar to that of the Girl Scout mission-to equip women and girls with necessary resources to build women of courage and confidence...and to make the world a better place.
Peace.
